Creator, Commitment–Preparedness–Discipline (CPD) Framework

2021 – Present

Developed the CPD Framework — a holistic, academically grounded model for cybersecurity and AI governance built around three mutually reinforcing pillars:

• Commitment — leadership ownership, cultural embedding, and sustained investment, ensuring cybersecurity and AI governance are treated as strategic priorities rather than compliance exercises.
• Preparedness — proactive capability development across risk assessment, incident response planning, awareness training, and vendor risk management, translating leadership intent into operational readiness.
• Discipline — continuous oversight and institutionalized learning through governance policy, monitoring, audits, and penetration testing, transforming policy into habit and capability into reliability.

Where traditional frameworks specify what controls to implement, CPD holds organizations accountable for how those controls are actually performed — closing what its research identifies as the most common and consequential failure pattern across industries: high Commitment scores paired with weak Discipline, the gap between stated intent and real-world execution. The framework includes a structured readiness assessment — 20+ questions weighted across the three pillars, benchmarked against NIST CSF, ISO 27001, HIPAA, and GDPR — that produces a prioritized, KPI-driven roadmap for closing that gap. It is grounded in four established research traditions: IT–business alignment (Henderson & Venkatraman), sociotechnical systems theory (Bostrom & Heinen), bounded rationality (Simon), and high-reliability organizations research (Weick & Sutcliffe).

First articulated in Cybersecurity Readiness: A Holistic and High-Performance Approach (SAGE, 2021), the framework has since been extended into AI governance — addressing the same commitment, preparedness, and discipline gaps that cause autonomous AI deployments to fail, and mapping directly onto emerging obligations under the EU AI Act, GDPR Article 22, and FTC/CFPB guidance on automated decision-making. It has been applied in both academic and Fortune 500 practitioner settings, including a 2026 Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS)-accepted paper applying CPD to U.S. Space Command’s cybersecurity culture, and has been the centerpiece of keynotes and invited talks at institutions including ICN Business School (France), NEOMA Business School (France), West Virginia University, and the World Economy Research Institute’s Warsaw conference on innovation and competitiveness — described by Advisory Cloud as making him “a pioneering figure in cybersecurity, renowned for developing the Commitment-Preparedness-Discipline (CPD) framework, a comprehensive methodology that revolutionizes cybersecurity readiness.”

Founded and hosts a global podcast built to make cybersecurity and AI risk conversations reflective, jargon-free, and mainstream. Launched June 8, 2021, the series marked its fifth anniversary in June 2026. As of mid-2026, it has produced 109+ episodes, surpassed 17,000 downloads, reached listeners in 131 countries, and featured 60+ guest organizations — including IBM, Microsoft, Cisco, Palo Alto Networks, AT&T, Truist, Infosys, the SANS Institute, Cloudflare, the NSA, U.S. Cyber Command, and the U.S. Department of Defense. Guests span CISOs and CSOs, CEOs and founders, CTOs and product leaders, academics and researchers, and law enforcement and government officials, giving listeners technical, legal, operational, and strategic perspectives within a single forum.

Beyond audio, the series’ influence extends into structured scholarship and education: episodes have informed teaching cases published by Ivey Publishing and distributed through Harvard Business Publishing and The Case Centre, are cited as a primary source in peer-reviewed research, and are used in university courses, executive education, and corporate training worldwide. President, Society for Information Management (SIM) Atlanta Chapter

2007 – 2015

Led the Atlanta chapter of the Society for Information Management (SIM) — a premier national community of senior IT practitioners, academics, and thought leaders — for nearly a decade, elected Chairman of the Board for seven consecutive years. Worked hands-on with business leaders across every aspect of the organization, from vision-setting to day-to-day operations.

• Grew the chapter’s annual charity golf tournament from $2,000 to $107,000 in eight years, with proceeds reinvested in regional nonprofits; through donations and partner programs, the chapter’s giving indirectly touched 6.5 million people and over 100 nonprofit organizations during this tenure.
• Founded the SIM Atlanta Student Fellowship Program, awarding $1,000 scholarships and a full year of SIM Atlanta membership — events, networking, and project work — to top students at member institutions.
• Established the chapter’s partnership with TechBridge, a nonprofit bringing affordable technology to other nonprofits.
• Nominated for the SIM Leader of the Year award in 2009 and 2014.

Accepted the Editor-in-Chief position in January 2023 and transformed the journal’s review system and structure, reducing bottlenecks and improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the review process for this Taylor & Francis-published international scholarly journal.

• Served as Senior Editor of this internationally respected research journal, published by Taylor & Francis, one of the world’s oldest and most established academic publishers.
• Launched The Ongoing Cybersecurity Research Series, a first-of-its-kind practitioner-academic publishing initiative built around a Cybersecurity Editorial Board of Practitioners. The series produced 11 high-quality papers and drew scholarly submissions from around the world, guiding several cybersecurity research articles to publication.

• As part of this university-wide leadership team, studied and authored multiple academic program and unit performance review reports, covering every aspect of a unit’s operation — mission and goal alignment, governance structure, FTE distribution, productivity and research metrics, teaching effectiveness, mentoring, program viability, and infrastructure.
• Led policy and procedural changes to the university’s academic program review process through multiple committees and sub-committees, winning University Council approval in November 2016 — sharpening the review process while reducing faculty time commitment.
• Recognized by top UGA leadership, including the Vice-Provost, for significantly improving and transforming the program and unit review process.
